You were having trouble with convincing Karkat to go with you to school. Who knows what he'll do without you watching him? So far, he hated everything about you. Sometimes, you felt like he hated you for no reason at all.
He's just lucky you're tolerant.
To sum up the weekend, Karkat watched pretty much every romantic comedy he could find, told you off, slept in YOUR bed, and you had to deal with him screaming at the TV while he was watching 'The Real Housewives'.
"Look, nooksucker. I'm not going to one of your stupid human school buildings every gogdamn day. I'm your fucking GOD!" he snapped at you. You ignored him. "Just shut up and go with it, Karkat. You shouldn't be in my apartment every 'gogdamn' day either."
He was about to reply, but he seemed as though he had nothing to say in response. He just groaned. "If it makes you shut up, I'l go TODAY. That's it." You sighed in relief, then got out a glass case of peach face paint. "Good. Now, you have to put this costume paint on-"
"No way in hell."
Somehow, you knew he was going to say that. Fortunately, you were prepared. "Oh well then," you say with an exasperated sigh, "Guess when you go looking like what you are right now, you're gonna be taken by the government to a secret science testing lab then."
He spun his head toward you.
"Who knows what they'll do? Probably cut you open and examine you? Maybe-"
"SHUT UP, OKAY?! I'LL PUT ON THE FUCKING CLOWN SHIT!!!"
Karkat snatched the costume makeup and stormed out of the bathroom. Good thing, too. You were about to be late for your classes.
About thirty minutes later, Karkat got out. It was actually surprising. He looked fully human. Now, you had to do something about the horns. You instantly went over to your winter clothes cabinet and pulled out a red wool hat.
"Okay, you need to put this on to cover up your horns." Karkat just scowled at the sight of it. "Why the fuck does it have to be red?"
You rolled your eyes. "Well, it's all I have, so don't be a color nazi." You handed it to him, and he took it, muttering swear words under his breath.
Once he put it on, he looked ready to go.
"Alright, time to go!" you chimed and dragged him out. You didn't know why you were so happy. Maybe because this grumpy alien was the closest thing you had to a friend before? Well Karkat wasn't much in the friend category, but still.
After walking through the park, you arrived at your school. Just as you thought, Karkat was extremely overwhelmed by all of the people around.
"What... The fuck is this, _______?" he asked. You smiled. "This is school." Once those words left your mouth, you remembered what school really is for you. "Yeah... School..." you sighed quietly. Karkat looked at you with a confused face, then turned away.
You both went into the school.
You and Karkat arrived to your homeroom class after fighting through the halls. The teacher looked to Karkat. "Who is this, _______?" he asked. "Oh, he's a foreign exchange student here. His name's Karkat Vantas and he's enrolled here."
... Total lie.
The teacher raised an eyebrow. "Very well. You may sit down in your regular seat. I shall assign 'Karkat' into a seat in which he will be sitting in until the end of the semester."
Karkat gave you a 'screw you, bitch' face. You thought fast. "Well, uh, he might only be here today. His parents might be moving to another place after today, so... Yeah."
You knew the teacher wouldn't buy it. But before he could ask questions, the bell rang. You quickly sat into your seat before he could go back to what he was about to say.
Soon, all the students swarmed in until the classroom was full. You never exactly listened to the announcements on the intercom. They were mainly about football games and clubs.
You didn't give two shits about sports and no one would let you into a club.
Once announcements were over, your teacher and Karkat were up at the front of the class. "Everyone, I'd like to introduce you to a new exchange student from... Well, he hasn't really said yet. Anyway, this young lad is Karkat Vantas."
All the girls in the class whispered quiet comments among each other, like: "Where do you think he's from?" or "He's sooo cute!".
Karkat stood there. Sullen.
"Now, Karkat. You will be assigned to the seat by..."
Come on... You... Choose you... You're the one that gave the impression to him that you knew him before...
"Oh! Pick me, sir~!"
Oh shit. NononononononoNO!!
"Aah, yes. You can take the seat by Taylor McTreal right over there." the teacher said and pointed to Taylor, of all the gog-GODdamn people in this class. Karkat looked to you, then took the seat next to hers. You could see Taylor slightly move her chair closer to him.
You weren't in any other class with Karkat until lunch
You were beginning to be scared that he'll start to shun you forever. Just like everyone else. You looked at the other lunch that you made for him and sighed. You were so sad... Mainly worried, to be honest.
Why, though? Why were you tearing yourself up on the inside? Why did this feel as though you were being stabbed in the heart? You've never felt a feeling like this ever.
This was new to you.
You finally saw Karkat walk into the cafeteria. He spot you, then walked on over to you. He plopped down next to you, which for some reason...
Made you feel... You couldn't describe it, but it was a nice feeling. You handed the lunch you made for Karkat, which was the exact same thing you always had for lunch (As previously mentioned on sentence three of the first chapter).
"This is what 'school' is like?" he asked. You nodded. "Well, for me right now, it's-"
Karkat was interrupted by...
"Hey there, Karky~! Remember me? I'm Taylor. Y'know, from homeroom?"
You set your head on the table, your arms acting like a pillow. Taylor stroked Karkat's face, obviously attempting to seduce him. "Why are you here all alone? With this... Thing?" she asked.
Karkat just glared at her with his bright ruby eyes. She just gave him her ear-raping giggle. "Aw, now there. I don't bite. Unless you want someone... Feisty." Taylor said with a voice like Circe's melody.
He continued to glare at her.
"Aw, you must be shy. It makes sense for someone from another place far, far away. You might not even know who's the trash and who's the treasure!"
She pointed to you. "Now, Karky, this is the Trash." She pointed to herself. "And this is the Treasure. You want to have the Treasure? Or do you want that nasty piece of Trash right next to you-"
This time, Taylor was the one that was interrupted.
With a slap from Karkat.
"Will you just shut the FUCK. UP?! I DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR DISGUSTING MOTIVES, BITCH!! YOU'RE LIKE THE SHIT OFF A TOILET PAPER BEING DUMPED INTO A TOILET COMPLETELY MADE OF SHIT THAT IS MADE UP OF ALL THE SHIT IN THIS GOGDAMN PLANET. THEN EVERYONE WOULD LINE UP AND SHIT ON YOU IN A SINGLE FILE LINE!! AND HELL, THEY ALL CAN'T WAIT!! AND THAT'S JUST THE MINOR WAY TO PUT IT!!"
That really caused a scene. Taylor was crying all over the place, her crew retreated, all the other students were wide eyed... Hell, you almost pissed yourself.
Now, you felt that you seriously needed to take Karkat back to your apartment before he could get detention and have to come back to school.
You grabbed him and sprinted out the doors of the school and did so.
This was the worst idea you have ever had.
